The School Library Service's mission is to work in partnership with primary and secondary schools to enhance the reading and learning experiences of children and young people by:

• Encouraging children and young people of all abilities to enjoy books and reading
• Helping children and young people to develop the ability to learn independently and use the internet intelligently
• Enabling children and young people to enjoy their chance to browse, choose and discover in a welcoming and well-stocked library, experiencing it as:

• Own space - reading solo and learning independently
• Shared space - reading and learning together
• Inspirational space - for the imagination
• Social space - parents and families reading
• Display space  - celebrating achievement and reading promotion
• Head space  - for gifted and talented

For heads, teachers and governors, you can make the most of the School Library Service's contribution to your school's improvement through:     

• Specialist expert advice and shared good practice from our school library advisers
• Access for teachers to high quality resources via exchanges and topic collections
• Practical support for your staff through our all-inclusive subscription services
